According to mythology, Maa Parvati took the form of Maa Kali to destroy the evil. Once the demons named Shumbha-Nishumbha and Raktabīja had created terror in all the three worlds. All the gods and goddesses were troubled by their atrocities. In such a situation, the gods and goddesses asked Lord Shiva for a solution to get rid of this problem. Then Mahadev ordered Maa Parvati to kill the demons, Maa Parvati took the form of Maa Kali and killed Shumbha and Nishumbha.

After this, Maa Durga faced Raktbeej, from whose body blood a large number of Raktbeej demons were born, because he had got a boon that if a drop of his blood falls on the earth, then another demon like him will be born. In such a situation, Durga manifested Maa Kalratri with her light. After this, Maa Durga killed the demon Raktabīja, then Maa Kalratri filled her mouth with the blood coming out of his body before it fell on the ground. In this way Raktabīja was destroyed.
