Rajiv Shakdher will be the new Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, notification issued
Rajiv Shakdher will be the new Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court. He will replace MS Ramachandra Rao. Rajeev Shakdher will become the 29th Chief Justice of Himachal High Court. After the approval of the Central Government, the Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a notification in this regard.
Right now Rajiv Shakdher is the senior Justice of Delhi High Court. Two months ago, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Justice Rajiv Shakdher to be made the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court. At the same time, it was recommended to transfer MS Ramachandra Rao to Jharkhand High Court. These recommendations have now been approved by the Central Government. The current Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao took over as the Chief Justice of Himachal High Court on 30 May 2023. He served in Himachal High Court for about 16 and a half months.
Rajiv Shakdher, who has been appointed as the new Chief Justice, may soon take charge of Himachal High Court. Rajiv Shakdher was appointed as the judge of Delhi High Court on 11 April 2008 and is fourth in the seniority list. He is one of the most senior judges in the country. In the year 2016 also, he was transferred to Madras High Court, where he served till 11 April 2016. After this, he was serving in Delhi High Court from 15 January 2018.
There are currently 12 judges in Himachal Pradesh High Court including the Chief Justice. These include Chief Justice Mamidanna Satya Ratna Sri Ramachandra Rao, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Justice Vivek Thakur, Justice Ajay Mohan Goyal, Justice Sandeep Sharma, Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua, Justice Satyen Vaidya, Justice Sushil Kukreja, Justice Ranjan Sharma, Justice Vipin Chandra Negi and Justice Rakesh Kainthala.
