Shimla, September 06: The ongoing monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly has been extended by 11 days, with an extra day added to the proceedings. The assembly, initially scheduled for 10 sittings, will now be held on both Monday and Tuesday. The decision was announced on Friday after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Chouhan moved a resolution, which was accepted by Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania.
The extension of the session has been welcomed by the opposition. Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur expressed his support, saying it was the right decision, especially considering the importance of discussing the state’s finances. “This extra time is needed to address key issues, especially the economic challenges of the state,” he said.
The decision to extend the proceedings was taken after the BJP legislature party led by Jairam Thakur met Speaker Kuldeep Pathania earlier in the day. They sought more time to deliberate on the state’s economic situation, especially under Rule 130, which allows discussion on matters of public importance.
Now with the proceedings scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm on Monday, discussions about financial mismanagement are expected to take centre stage. The extended session on Tuesday will provide additional time for a wide-ranging debate on important issues facing the state, including its economic challenges.
