Shimla, August 29: Implementing the announcement made on the occasion of Independence Day, the Sukhu government of Himachal Pradesh has issued a notification of pension arrears to pensioners of 75 years and above and family pension holders. Pensioners of this age group will get the arrears of revised pension due from January 2016.

According to the notification issued by the Finance Department late on Wednesday evening, pensioners and family pensioners of this age group will be paid 22.50 percent of arrears in the current month of August itself. Getting the arrears will provide relief to about 28 thousand pensioners. It is estimated that about Rs 450 crore will be spent on the payment of revised pension arrears.

The state government had already paid about 55 percent of the revised pension due from January 2016 to pensioners of 75 years or above. Now only 45 percent arrears of these pensioners were due. As per the notification, 22.50 percent of this amount is to be paid in the month of August. With this, 77.50 percent revised pension arrears will be paid to the pensioners and family pension holder families. The government will issue a separate notification for payment of pending revised pension arrears.

It may be noted that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had announced payment of revised pension arrears due from January 2016 to pensioners and family pension holders of 75 years and above in the state level Independence Day function held in Dehra on 15 August.
