Shimla, August 11: It is raining heavily in Himachal Pradesh. Life is disrupted in many parts due to floods and landslides. Rain has created havoc in Sirmaur and Kinnaur districts and people’s troubles have increased.

Due to torrential rains in Sirmaur district since last night, Giri, Yamuna and Markanda rivers have taken a fierce form and the administration has advised people to stay away from rivers and streams. The overflowing Markanda river is wreaking havoc in Bankalan Panchayat of Nahan, the headquarters of Sirmaur district. On Sunday morning, the flood swept away the temple built on the river bank in Bankalan. The temple was submerged in water in a blink of an eye.

A massive landslide has occurred due to flash flood in Pooh tehsil of tribal district Kinnaur. There has been a massive landslide on several kilometers of the National Highway from Pooh to Rorik. Due to this, the highway has been completely blocked. It is believed that flash flood has come here after cloudburst. However, there is no report of any casualty due to flash flood and landslide.

Five NHs and 288 roads blocked due to landslide

The traffic system has collapsed due to the blockage of many roads due to extensive rainfall in the state. According to the State Emergency Operation Center, till Sunday morning, five national highways and 288 roads are blocked due to landslides across the state. Two national highways are closed in Mandi, one each in Sirmaur, Kullu and Kinnaur. The maximum number of 96 roads are closed in Mandi district.

76 roads are closed in Shimla, 37 in Kullu, 33 in Sirmaur, 26 in Chamba, 7 in Lahaul-Spiti, 5 in Hamirpur and 4 each in Kangra and Kinnaur. Apart from this, 458 electricity transformers and 48 drinking water schemes are also stalled. The maximum power outage is due to 204 transformers in Chamba district and 119 in Sirmaur. 21 transformers in Kullu, 20 in Mandi and 13 in Shimla are stalled. Due to heavy rain, 25 drinking water schemes in Kullu and 16 in Shimla are stalled.

Orange alert of heavy rain for the next 24 hours, flood warning

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert of heavy to very heavy rain in 10 districts for the next 24 hours i.e. till Monday. This alert has been issued for Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan and Una districts. Along with this, a warning has been issued of flood in six districts Chamba, Hamirpur, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur in the next 24 hours. The weather will remain bad in the state till August 17.

Most rain fell in Nahan

According to the Meteorological Department, Nahan received the highest rainfall of 196 mm last night. 135 mm rainfall was recorded in Una, 117 mm in Dhaula Kuan, 110 mm in Paonta Sahib, 85 mm in Kangra, 82 mm in Palampur and 52 mm in Bilaspur.
