Shimla, August 4: The weather department has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rainfall in Himachal Pradesh till August 9. The advisory comes after a spell of bad weather, including recent cloudbursts, that has wreaked havoc across the state, resulting in over 50 people going missing or dying due to flash floods.
Light rains lashed various parts of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday, with Barthi receiving 18.5 mm, Hamirpur and Narkanda receiving 0.5 mm and Bilaspur receiving 1.5 mm of rain. Kangra, Dharamsala and Sundernagar also recorded light drizzle.
Despite the prevailing challenges, the improvement in weather on Saturday led to significant progress in repairing damaged infrastructure. The administration successfully restored one national highway, 77 roads, 131 power transformers and 20 drinking water schemes. Earlier in the day, 3 national highways, 191 roads, 294 power transformers and 120 drinking water schemes were reported damaged. By evening, the number of projects closed came down to 2 national highways, 114 roads, 163 power transformers and 100 drinking water schemes, with more repairs expected on Sunday.
The cloudburst and subsequent floods have highlighted the grave challenges faced by the region, emphasizing the need for constant vigilance and prompt restoration efforts. The administration has urged residents to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines during this volatile weather.
