Hamirpur, 02 August: In an impressive feat, the Hamirpur police has successfully solved a case of online fraud, recovering Rs 5.34 lakh from the account of a man hailing from Galod in Himachal Pradesh within five days. The victim, Bal Chand Rajput, was duped on July 24 by conmen posing as Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) who intimidated him with false allegations of being involved in drug and hawala money dealings as well as terror activities.

The fraudsters devised a plan that made the educated Bal Chand Rajput believe their threats. In panic, he broke his FD of Rs 5.34 lakh and transferred the money to the fraudsters’ account through cheque. It was only after realizing the possibility of fraud that Rajput reported the incident to Hamirpur police.

On receiving the complaint, Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh Thakur handed over the case to the cyber unit of Hamirpur. The team of ASI Ami Chand, constable Deepak Kumar and Rohin Sharma took immediate action. They uploaded the information of the case on the cyber portal and immediately froze the accounts in which the money was transferred. Although the money had already been transferred to other accounts, the police managed to freeze all the concerned accounts.

Within three days, the cyber unit submitted a copy of the complaint to the court. After this, the court issued orders to release the frozen amount. On August 1, with the intervention of the police, the recovered amount was returned to the bank account of Bal Chand Rajput.

This case is the first major success for the newly formed cyber unit of Hamirpur police. Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh praised the excellent work of the team and emphasized the importance of vigilance and prompt reporting of cyber crimes.

Bal Chand Rajput acknowledged the prompt and effective response of the police and expressed his gratitude. “He was duped by showing fear of drugs, hawala and underworld, but he got his money back due to the promptness of the police,” he said.

This incident highlights the growing menace of cyber fraud and the important role of timely police intervention. The efficient handling of this case by the Hamirpur police reminds people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. By staying informed and alert, one can save themselves from falling prey to cyber criminals.
