Shimla, July 25: The Himachal Pradesh government has given a strict ultimatum to the Patwaris and Kanungos who have stopped working online over Himachal cadre issues and other demands. The Himachal Pradesh government has made it clear that if these employees do not return to work within two days, they will face suspension and other disciplinary action.

The protests have caused a lot of disruption in public services. On Thursday, members of the Patwari and Kanungo Association started handing over the keys of their circles managed under additional workload to the Tehsildars due to non-resolution of their demands. This action was particularly seen in areas like Hamirpur and Pangi.

In response to the escalating situation, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Omkar Sharma issued strict instructions to all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) regarding the protest. Sharma underlined that the actions of the patwaris and kanungos are unbecoming of government servants and violate the CCS (Conduct) Rules, 1964. Such violations make the employees liable for disciplinary action.

The government has directed all DCs to issue strict advisories to the protesting patwaris and kanungos to immediately resume online work to minimise inconvenience to the public. Also, they have been directed to rejoin the official WhatsApp group and carry out their additional responsibilities. Non-compliance of these directions within two days will attract immediate action, including suspension.

Further, the period during which the patwaris and kanungos have kept off online work will be treated as ‘Dice-Non’, marking a break in service. Continued defiance of government orders will attract further disciplinary action.

The government has reiterated its openness for dialogue, expressing its willingness to address the legitimate grievances of employees. However, it has categorically stated that any action by government employees that harms the interests of the general public will not be tolerated.
