Shocking: Twenty-year-old girl dragged for 20 meters in an attempt to rob in broad daylight, police arrested three
Mandi – In a Heartbreaking incident, three men from Punjab have been arrested for trying to rob a college girl in broad daylight. The accused dragged a college girl for 20 metres with their car near Aihju on the Mandi-Pathankot national highway. The entire incident took place on Friday at around 3:00 pm.
The victim, 20-year-old Neha Verma, a resident of Suja Sandrahal panchayat, was waiting for an HRTC bus to go home. A car without a number plate came from Baijnath side and the occupants tried to snatch her chain, mobile and purse. However, Neha’s bag was tied around her neck, making it difficult for the attackers to snatch it. In their desperation, they started driving and dragged Neha on the road for 20 meters until she fell down and got injured. Neha Verma was immediately rushed to Baijnath Hospital for treatment.
After this, the suspects moved towards Jogindernagar. At Sai Bazaar, they tried to crush the scooter-riding woman and the Home Guard jawan with their car, causing a traffic jam. During the commotion, a Home Guard jawan caught one of the attackers, but the suspects fled from the spot after hitting five parked vehicles and another vehicle near the approach road.
The suspects tried to evade capture by putting fake number plates on their car. However, the police had already set up a blockade in Gumma and successfully nabbed the three youths. The accused are currently in police custody and are being questioned. All the three suspects have been confirmed to be from Punjab.
DSP Padhar Dinesh Kumar said, “The investigation is proceeding as per standard procedures. We will take further action based on the written statement given by the victim.”
