Lahaul and Spiti Police rescued 44 tourists stranded at Kunjum Top after a lot of hard work
After the above incident, keeping the security in mind, the District Police decided that no tourist vehicle will be sent from Koksar to Kaza and from Losar to Koksar after 4:00 pm every day. Only locals, emergencies and vehicles with bookings on this route will be allowed to travel towards Losar and from Losar to Koksar after 4:00 pm. Other vehicles are advised not to travel on this route after 4:00 pm.
Keylong, July 16: On 15th July 2024 at 2:30 am, information was received from SCP Losar that some tourists and a bus (numbered LA 02A 6417) and pickup (numbered HP 42D 1385) were stranded near Kunjum Top. Regarding this, District Lahaul Spiti Police took action to rescue the above persons. A team was formed under the leadership of Sub Inspector Pawan Kumar and they were engaged in rescue work.
According to the office number 3417/5A of Police Station Kaza, the bus and pick-up vehicle left from Koksar towards Kaza after 5:00 pm, carrying a total of 44 people (23 men, 19 women, a driver and a guide).

All these tourists were elderly. The bus and pick-up vehicle got stuck in the mud about 500 meters behind Kunjum Top, towards Batal.
The rescue operation was carried out by the District Police from 2:30 pm to 6:00 am in difficult conditions with the help of Garg & Garg, in which the above 44 people were successfully rescued. All the persons were sent safely to Losar.
