Shimla, July 15:A drug smuggler escaped from the custody of Shimla Police which was seen in swift action against drugs. The surprising thing is that the accused escaped by cutting the grill of the lockup and the police personnel remained helpless. After the accused escaped from police custody, there was chaos in Dhali Police Station. The senior officers were informed about the incident immediately. The police have set up blockades and are trying to find the absconding accused. The police personnel who were negligent are sure to face action.

The Dhali police station in-charge has identified the absconding accused as Akash Mathur (23). He is a native of Delhi. On July 9, the police arrested him with 14.61 grams of drug peddling in Bhattakufar of Dhali. A case was registered against him under the NDPS Act. After this, the accused was produced in the court and he was on police remand. He was kept in custody at Dhali police station. The accused escaped by breaking the grill of the window in the police station at around 12 o’clock on Sunday night.

Four teams of Shimla Police have been formed to catch the accused Akash Mathur. Blockades have been put in place at various places. Apart from this, the accused is also being searched through CCTV cameras installed in the city and other places, so that the accused can be taken into custody again. Police teams are conducting raids to catch the absconding accused. CCTV cameras installed around the police station are also being scanned. Police vigilance has been increased at the new and old bus stands of the city due to the fear of the accused fleeing out of Shimla. No clue has been found so far about the absconding accused.

According to the information, negligence of the police personnel posted on duty at the time of the incident has come to light in this case. The accused broke the grill of the lockup and the police personnel did not even get a clue of it.

A Shimla police officer said that efforts are being made to arrest the absconding accused. Strict action will be taken against policemen who are negligent.
