Shimla, July 04: Heavy monsoon rains since Wednesday night have started wreaking havoc in Himachal Pradesh. Due to landslides in various areas of Himachal, the movement of vehicles is getting completely affected due to debris falling on many roads. There are reports of landslides and falling of trees due to heavy rains in Shimla city. Shimla-Bilaspur National Highway was blocked due to landslide in the early morning due to hill debris falling on the road. The entire landslide incident came to light at the barrier near the suburb Chakkar.
During the landslide, vehicles passing on the Shimla-Bilaspur National Highway escaped being hit by the debris. After this, the local administration came into action and the Shimla-Bilaspur National Highway was restored for one side by removing the debris with the help of JCB machines. During this, long queues of vehicles were seen on Shimla-Bilaspur National Highway. A huge tree fell on the connecting road in Himland area of Shimla city, although there was no loss of life in the entire incident.
According to the reports of State Emergency Operation Center, 115 roads are blocked due to landslides in entire Himachal Pradesh. Mandi district is the most affected district, where 107 roads are blocked. Four roads are closed in Chamba district, three in Solan district and one in Kangra district. 39 roads in Seraj sub-division of Mandi district, 28 in Karsog, 22 in Thalout, nine in Sundarnagar, five in Nerchowk and two in Mandi sub-division are blocked due to landslides. 212 transformers have been damaged due to heavy rains. Electricity is out due to the shutdown of 147 transformers in Mandi district, 42 in Kullu, 16 in Chamba and seven in Solan. Due to widespread rain, 10 drinking water schemes in Theog subdivision of Shimla district and seven in Kumarsain are also stalled.

According to the report of the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall of 110 mm has been recorded in Sundarnagar of Mandi district. Apart from this, 109 mm rainfall has been recorded in Palampur, 84-84 in Bagi and Shimla, 80 in Gohar, 79 in Solan, 78 in Mashobra, 75 in Joginder Nagar and 70 mm in Baijnath. The Meteorological Department has said that the storm blew at a speed of 53 kilometers per hour in Rekong Peo of Kinnaur and 38 kilometers per hour in Tabo.
Director of Meteorological Center Shimla, Surender Paul said that the series of rains is expected to continue for the next three days. An orange alert for heavy rain has been issued for the next 24 hours i.e. on July 5 and a yellow alert has been issued on July 6 and 7.
