Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, April 25: In IGMC, the largest government hospital of Himachal Pradesh, the complete information about all the medicines available free of cost to the patients coming from far away places and the quantity of their daily stock is not being updated on the web portal of IGMC. Despite the reprimand of Himachal Pradesh State Information Commission, IGMC management is not improving due to which patients and their parents are facing inconvenience throughout the day.

It is noteworthy that in the case of Anil Saraswati vs Public Information Officer IGMC & Hospital Shimla, the State Information Commission in its decision given four months ago had clearly stated that the Public Information Officer is fully responsible for uploading the status of all the medicines distributed free of cost to the patients of IGMC & Hospital Shimla on daily basis prominently on the web portal of IGMC.

The Commission had also made it clear in its orders that by doing this, public awareness will be maintained about the stock availability of the said medicines and the hospital management will also continue to take steps for purchasing medicines in a time bound manner.

Following the orders of the Commission, information about a total of 360 types of injectables, surgical consumables and medicines (Tablets) has been made available in the form of free medicines on the website of IGMC.

Additionally, a total of 1,376 items are cited as EDL molecule descriptions.

A list of free medicines is uploaded every day on the web portal of IGMC, but in this list no information is given about the quantity of available stock of each free medicine, Without providing this information, it does not seem completely possible to follow the orders of the State Information Commission.

Although in this age of computer technology, providing the said information does not seem like a difficult task, still only the IGMC management can give better answer as to why the orders of the State Information Commission have not been fully followed yet.
