The appliance industry of the largest industrial area of Himachal Pradesh has been hit hard by the farmers’ movement. Production in industries is becoming negligible. Due to closure of Delhi for five days, goods have not been released from these industries. The liabilities of industries are continuously increasing.
The goods manufactured by BBN’s appliance industries are consumed in the Delhi market, but no goods have been sent here for the last five days. 80 percent of the goods here go to Delhi, but due to the farmers’ movement in Punjab and Haryana, there are blockades at various places due to which neither any raw material is coming to Himachal nor finished goods are going to Delhi.
State President of Laghu Udyog Bharti Harbans Patial said that the Central Government should soon resolve the farmers’ movement through talks. Small industrialists have been stunned by the sudden strike. He is neither in a position to run the industry nor can he keep it closed. The liabilities of labour, electricity and bank debts are continuously increasing. In such a situation, if this movement continues for a long time, the industries whose goods go to Delhi will be affected. They will be closed. Meanwhile, retired ESIC Assistant Director Devvrat Yadav said that no truck is ready to go to Delhi. Due to the agitation on the way, truck operators are scared of losses and the trucks coming to Himachal from outside states are also stuck in the jam.
Trucks did not go to Delhi for the fifth consecutive day –
No truck has gone to Delhi even on the fifth day. Dinesh Kaushal, general secretary of the truck union, said that even on the fifth day no truck has gone. There is a lot of demand from industries in Delhi but truck drivers are not ready to go. BBNIA President Rajeev Aggarwal said that due to non-availability of raw and finished goods from Delhi, the industries are now on the verge of closure. Industries are running out of storage capacity. Many industries have begun to close in the shutdown.
The number of tourists in trains decreased due to farmers’ movement –
The farmers’ movement has now started affecting the trains running on the world heritage Kalka-Shimla railway line. Bookings in trains running from Kalka to Shimla have decreased by about 40 percent. Due to less passengers coming in the trains coming from Delhi, the crowd is also decreasing. People have started canceling their bookings due to farmers stopping trains in outside states. Although farmers’ agitation is not taking place in Chandigarh and Kalka, farmers in other areas have blocked the railway tracks. Due to this many trains are also arriving late. Mostly the trains coming from Punjab are being affected.
The number of passengers coming to Kalka Railway Station from Chandigarh by taking other trains has reduced considerably. Due to this, the toy train is running with less passengers on the Kalka-Shimla railway track. At the same time, the number of tourists has also reduced in the hotels of Kasauli and Chail. Due to tourists not coming to the state, the number is not increasing even during weekends. In such a situation, hoteliers are again facing problems. There was an increase in tourists due to snowfall in the state. But due to the farmers’ movement, the same situation has happened in hotels again.
On the other hand, the railway official said that due to the farmers’ movement, bookings in trains on the Kalka Shimla railway line have reduced. Here, vehicle movement on NH has also been affected.
