840 women from Spiti, including 286 Buddhist nuns, to receive Rs. 1,500 grant following Himachal Pradesh government’s announcement as a poll pledge

In a remarkable occurrence, 840 women residing in the Spiti Valley of Lahaul-Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh will now be receiving a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500 as an incentive. The beneficiaries include 286 nuns following Buddhism in the area. This provision was assured as one of the ten promises made by the Congress party before the elections.

RephraseThis effort is geared towards helping unmarried women who are not receiving any pension benefits. A total of 940 submissions were received by the Kaza divisional welfare department for the program, unfortunately, 137 of these submissions were turned away. The first phase, which started on June 1st, included the distribution of the monthly incentive. The program remains open to new submissions, and qualified women will be added to the list.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had announced the incentive of Rs 1,500 for the women of Spiti during the Himachal Day celebrations held in Spiti on April 15, 2023. The tehsil welfare department has released the first installment of Rs 50.40 lakh for the initiative.

To be eligible for the incentive, having a bank account is a requirement. At present, 38 recipients have provided post office account details, but they have been urged to furnish their bank account information for the deposit of funds as required.

RephraseAs per the statements of department officials, during the first phase, each recipient will be provided with the lump sum incentive amount for four consecutive months, starting from June up to September.
