LPG Supply Normal in Shimla, Government Urges Residents to Avoid Panic Booking

Amid rising concerns triggered by global tensions in West Asia, the Himachal Pradesh government has reassured residents that LPG supply in Shimla district remains completely normal, urging people not to panic or overbook cylinders.
The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs on Sunday issued a public advisory after noticing a sudden surge in LPG bookings across the district. Officials clarified that this spike is not due to any shortage but rather panic-driven demand, which is putting unnecessary pressure on the supply system.
A department spokesperson emphasized that there is no disruption in the availability of domestic LPG cylinders, and the current supply levels are consistent with the period before the West Asia crisis. However, many consumers are booking refills based on entitlement rather than actual need, leading to artificial demand and delays.
“There is absolutely no shortage of LPG. The issue is panic booking, which is creating an avoidable backlog,” the spokesperson said.
To ensure smooth distribution, authorities have urged residents to book cylinders only when required and avoid visiting LPG agency counters. The government reiterated that refill cylinders are not being issued directly at agency offices.
Instead, a well-organized delivery system is already in place:
- Urban areas: Doorstep delivery
- Rural areas: Supply through notified routes and focal distribution points
Despite clear instructions, officials noted that some people are still visiting agency counters and demanding immediate cylinder issuance. This not only violates the system but is also creating unnecessary crowding and potential law-and-order concerns.
The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and has assured citizens that adequate measures are in place to maintain uninterrupted LPG supply.
In a calm but firm message, authorities appealed to the public to act responsibly. “There is no need to panic. Cooperation from citizens will help ensure fair and timely distribution for everyone,” the spokesperson added.
