Setting the tone for a high-stakes political battle ahead, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has kicked off an aggressive campaign strategy aimed at reclaiming power in Himachal Pradesh in the 2027 Assembly elections.

At the conclusion of its two-day state executive meeting in Mandi, BJP leaders displayed strong confidence, claiming that growing public dissatisfaction with the Congress government could pave the way for their return. The gathering wasn’t just routine—it carried the unmistakable energy of a party preparing for a decisive comeback.

Addressing party workers, BJP national vice-president Saudan Singh struck a determined note, emphasizing the party’s commitment to restoring a “double engine government” in the state. He accused the Congress government of being disconnected from ground realities, stating that people are struggling while the administration remains unresponsive. Singh highlighted that BJP’s roadmap focuses on strengthening its grassroots network—from panchayats to the Assembly—to ensure a robust organisational presence.

Adding momentum to the narrative, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh declared that the “countdown has begun” for the Congress government. He claimed that within the next 18 months, a political shift is inevitable. Chugh also took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi’s governance model, alleging that electoral promises remain largely unfulfilled. “The last 3.5 years have pushed Himachal back by decades,” he remarked.

Echoing similar sentiments, BJP state in-charge Shrikant Sharma asserted that signs of Congress’ decline are already visible. He even claimed that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has indirectly acknowledged the government’s uncertain future. Sharma set an ambitious organisational target—ensuring Congress candidates lose deposits across all 8,007 booths—signalling the scale of BJP’s planned campaign.

In a clear shift toward modern campaigning, BJP co-incharge Sanjay Tandon underlined the importance of digital platforms in shaping voter perception. He revealed that social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, and X will play a crucial role in amplifying the party’s message and countering Congress narratives, particularly around the “10 guarantees” promised during elections.

Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched a sharp critique of the current administration, accusing it of financial mismanagement and favouritism. He alleged that the promise of “system change” has instead resulted in increased taxes, rising debt, and weakening welfare structures, while corruption continues to grow.

On the national front, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with elevating India’s global stature over the past decade. He contrasted BJP’s governance with that of the Congress, asserting that the current central leadership has consistently prioritised national interest and development.

Notably, BJP MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, was absent from the meeting, drawing attention amid the otherwise high-profile gathering.

As political temperatures rise in Himachal Pradesh, BJP’s Mandi meet signals the beginning of a long and intense electoral buildup—one that could redefine the state’s political landscape in the run-up to 2027.
