A fresh spell of turbulent weather is set to grip Himachal Pradesh, bringing hailstorms, heavy rain, and snowfall across several districts over the coming days. The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued an orange alert, warning residents to stay cautious as weather conditions intensify from April 7.

According to the latest forecast, districts including Kullu, Solan, Kangra, Mandi, and Chamba are expected to witness intense spells of thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds on April 7 and 8.

Meanwhile, a yellow warning has been issued for Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur, where moderate thunderstorms and strong winds are likely during the same period.

Western Disturbance to Drive Weather Activity

The sudden change in weather is being attributed to a fresh western disturbance, which is expected to remain active over the region until April 12. The weather department has predicted widespread rainfall, snowfall in higher reaches, and hail activity across the state during this period.

However, there is some relief ahead. Meteorologists indicate that weather intensity will gradually reduce after April 9, bringing partial stability to the region.

Temperature Drop Across Himachal

Along with precipitation, residents can expect a noticeable chill in the air. Daytime temperatures are likely to fall by 4°C to 6°C, leading to cooler-than-usual conditions across Himachal Pradesh. While minimum temperatures will remain near normal levels, the dip in maximum temperatures will be clearly felt.

Recent Weather Snapshot

Over the past 24 hours, isolated parts of the state witnessed light snowfall and scattered rainfall, while most areas remained largely clear. Night temperatures stayed 2°C to 4°C below normal, while daytime temperatures dropped by 3°C to 5°C.

Among key locations:

  • Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 6.2°C
  • Dharamshala saw 12°C
  • Manali reported 5.1°C
  • Kalpa remained among the coldest at 1.6°C

On the warmer side, Una recorded the highest temperature at 33.2°C, while Tabo registered the lowest minimum at 0.9°C.

Advisory for Residents

Authorities have urged locals and tourists to remain cautious, especially in hilly and vulnerable areas, as hailstorms and strong winds may disrupt travel and daily activities. Farmers are also advised to take preventive measures to protect crops from potential damage.
