In a significant push towards skill development and inclusive growth, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) has received a grant of 79.70 lakh from the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs. The funding aims to equip students from minority communities with job-ready skills and improve their employment prospects.
The grant has been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri VIKAS Yojana, a flagship initiative of the Central Government focused on empowering minority groups through skill development, entrepreneurship, and education. The scheme emphasizes practical, industry-relevant training that aligns with national standards, helping individuals secure sustainable livelihoods.
Originally, HPU had proposed a project worth over 1.13 crore, which included additional support such as candidate assessments and post-placement assistance. However, the Ministry has currently approved 79.70 lakh, excluding these components. Officials indicate that the remaining funds could be considered for release in the future, depending on compliance with ministry norms.
The approval process involved several rounds of discussions and presentations with the Ministry, guided by Vice-Chancellor Mahavir Singh, reflecting the university’s proactive approach toward creating employment opportunities for its students.
Under this initiative, around 300 students from centrally notified minority communities will receive specialized training in high-demand job roles. These include:
- Solar Photovoltaic Site Survey Assistant
- Solar PV Module Manufacturing Technician
- Certificate in Accounting Technicians (CAT)
These courses have been selected based on the National Qualifications Register (NQR), ensuring that the training meets recognized national standards and enhances employability across industries.
With growing demand in renewable energy and financial services sectors, this initiative is expected to open new career pathways for students, while also contributing to the broader vision of inclusive and sustainable development.
