Himachal Politics Heats Up: Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri Slams BJP Over Privilege Motion Against CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu
Political tensions escalated in Himachal Pradesh as Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri strongly criticized the BJP for bringing a privilege motion against the Chief Minister during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address.
Political tensions escalated in Himachal Pradesh as Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri strongly criticized the BJP for bringing a privilege motion against the Chief Minister during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address.
Calling it an “unprecedented move,” Agnihotri accused the BJP of setting a dangerous political trend. He also reminded the opposition of a past incident when an FIR was filed against Congress MLAs — including himself — during a protest involving the Governor.
“Such actions have never been seen before. Filing an FIR against MLAs within the Vidhan Sabha premises is highly unusual,” Agnihotri said.
He further emphasized that even in assemblies across the country where heated clashes occur, legal action like FIRs is rarely taken against lawmakers inside the Assembly complex. “The norm is suspension, not criminal cases,” he added.
Responding to the allegations, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur defended the BJP’s stand, stating that the FIR was filed strictly as per the law.
“The Governor was obstructed and pushed. Had our MLAs not intervened, the situation could have worsened. No one is above the law,” Thakur said.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Randhir Sharma intensified the attack on the Congress government, questioning its administrative efficiency. He pointed out delays in appointing key officials like the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police.
Sharma also criticized the government for failing to fulfill its election guarantees, claiming their absence in the Governor’s Address signals trouble ahead for the ruling party.
Adding to the criticism, he raised concerns over increased entry taxes and alleged a rise in gun-related incidents in the state.
Other legislators, including Kewal Pathania, Mohan Lal Brakta, and Rakesh Jamwal, also took part in the debate, reflecting the growing political friction in the Assembly.
