The sacred energy of Chaitra Navratri filled the air as thousands of devotees gathered at two of Himachal Pradesh’s most revered temples—the Bala Sundari Temple in Sirmaur and the Chintpurni Shrine in Una—marking the beginning of the nine-day festival with deep faith and devotion.

At the historic Bala Sundari Temple in Trilokpur, the Navratri fair officially began on Thursday morning with traditional rituals. Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Verma inaugurated the event by performing puja, lighting diyas, and participating in a yajna along with her family. She extended warm wishes to the people, calling Navratri a time of spiritual renewal and positivity.

The fair, which will continue until April 2, is expected to draw thousands of pilgrims not just from Himachal Pradesh but also from neighboring states like Haryana. One of the key highlights this year will be a grand Maha Aarti, where around 3,000 earthen lamps will illuminate the temple, creating a mesmerizing spiritual atmosphere.

With the expected surge in footfall, the administration has stepped up preparations. Tight security arrangements have been put in place, with police personnel, Home Guards, and temple staff deployed across the area to ensure smooth and safe darshan for all visitors.

Healthcare facilities, including first-aid services and ambulances, are also on standby for emergencies. Officials have made special efforts to maintain cleanliness, drinking water availability, and uninterrupted electricity supply. Authorities have urged devotees to cooperate in maintaining discipline and cleanliness during the festivities.

Meanwhile, the first day of Navratri also witnessed a huge turnout at the Chintpurni Temple in Una. Despite unfavorable weather conditions, devotees started arriving early in the morning to seek blessings, showcasing their unwavering faith.

The temple complex has been beautifully decorated with flowers and vibrant lights, enhancing the festive spirit. To manage the crowd efficiently, darshan is being conducted through computerized registration slips, ensuring an organized flow of pilgrims.

To avoid congestion, designated parking areas have been created along different routes, particularly to ease traffic on the Bharwain–Chintpurni road. In addition, strict security measures have been implemented, including the installation of CCTV cameras across the temple premises.

In a move aimed at maintaining safety, the offering of whole coconuts has been restricted. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure a peaceful environment for devotees.

As Chaitra Navratri begins, the overwhelming turnout at these temples reflects not just religious devotion, but also a deep cultural connection that continues to bring people together year after year.
