In a sharp political reaction, Jai Ram Thakur has questioned the intent behind the Himachal Pradesh government’s recent decision to withdraw cabinet rank from political appointees and reduce their salaries.

Calling the move “too little, too late,” Thakur said the decision appears more like a cosmetic step than a serious effort to control government spending. He pointed out that such action should have been taken immediately after the court ordered the removal of Chief Parliamentary Secretaries (CPS), rather than being delayed.

According to Thakur, the government is trying to create an impression of financial discipline without actually addressing deeper issues. “These are superficial measures meant to mislead the public,” he remarked, adding that there has been no concrete action to reduce unnecessary expenditure.

He also accused the Chief Minister of repeatedly giving misleading statements in the Assembly, suggesting that it reflects a broader pattern in how the current administration is functioning.

Raising another concern, Thakur highlighted the unusual delay in discussions on the Governor’s Address. He termed it unprecedented in the state’s parliamentary history and said it signals confusion and lack of clear direction within the government.

The remarks have once again intensified the political debate in Himachal Pradesh, with questions being raised about whether the government’s steps are genuinely reform-driven or merely aimed at public perception.
