In a touching act of solidarity and compassion, members of the umpire, scorer, and match referee community of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) came together to support one of their own during a difficult time.
Ramesh Kumar, an employee of HPCA, recently suffered a devastating personal loss when severe floods in Himachal Pradesh destroyed his home completely. The natural disaster left his family with no choice but to move into rented accommodation and start rebuilding their lives from scratch.
When members of the HPCA cricketing fraternity learned about his situation, they decided to step forward and help. Through a collective effort, umpires, scorers, and match referees associated with HPCA contributed together and raised ₹1,11,111 (One Lakh Eleven Thousand One Hundred and Eleven Rupees) as financial assistance for Ramesh Kumar.
The amount was presented to him with respect and heartfelt support, reflecting the strong bond shared within the cricketing community.
This gesture has been widely appreciated within the sports fraternity. It sends a powerful message that the spirit of cricket goes far beyond matches, scores, and competitions. Standing by colleagues in moments of hardship is what truly defines the values of sportsmanship.
Several prominent officials were present during the occasion, including ICC umpire Virender Sharma, BCCI match referees Shakti Singh and Amit Sharma, BCCI umpires Amit Rana and Varun Negi, as well as HPCA umpire Naveen and other members of the HPCA community.
Their collective effort serves as a reminder that even in challenging times, compassion and unity can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
