Himachal Pradesh witnessed an emotional moment as the state government organised a farewell ceremony for Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at the historic Peterhoff in Shimla. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu honoured the outgoing Governor and his wife with traditional Himachali shawls, caps and special mementos as a gesture of gratitude and respect.

The ceremony reflected the warm relationship Shukla developed with the people of Himachal Pradesh during his tenure.

Speaking at the event, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said it was a deeply emotional moment for him to say goodbye to what he described as the “Devbhoomi” of Himachal Pradesh. He shared that his time in the hill state had left him with unforgettable memories and strong emotional bonds.

“When one works in a state, it is natural to develop an attachment to that place. But my experience with Himachal Pradesh has been truly special. Himachal is not only Devbhoomi but also a ‘Prem Bhoomi’. The people here are simple, sincere and full of warmth,” the Governor said.

Shukla expressed heartfelt gratitude for the affection and support he received from the people during his tenure. He thanked political leaders across parties, social and cultural organisations, government officers and employees for their cooperation and encouragement.

Before concluding his address, the Governor emphasised the importance of tackling key challenges facing the state. He called for stronger efforts to curb drug abuse, protect the environment and further strengthen Himachal Pradesh’s tourism sector, which remains one of the state’s most important economic pillars.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu praised Shukla’s leadership and said he fulfilled his constitutional responsibilities with dignity and commitment.

“Governor Shukla carried out his duties with great sensitivity and dedication. His decisions upheld the spirit of the Constitution and enhanced the prestige of the constitutional office,” the Chief Minister said.

Sukhu also highlighted how Lok Bhavan became more accessible to the public during Shukla’s tenure. According to him, the Governor maintained close connections with citizens and regularly interacted with students, youth and social organisations.

“He remained deeply connected with the people and frequently visited universities and educational institutions, inspiring young minds to pursue knowledge, values and service to the nation,” the Chief Minister added.

Several prominent leaders and dignitaries attended the farewell ceremony, including Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Cabinet Ministers, judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari, senior government officers and other distinguished guests.

The event concluded on a note of gratitude and appreciation for Governor Shukla’s contribution to the state and the strong bonds he built with the people of Himachal Pradesh.
