In a strong gesture of gratitude and responsibility, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced that more than Rs 17 crore has been disbursed to 2,263 beneficiaries under various welfare schemes for ex-servicemen across Himachal Pradesh.

Addressing the importance of supporting those who have served the nation, the Chief Minister said the state government remains firmly committed to ensuring the welfare, dignity and socio-economic empowerment of ex-servicemen, gallantry award winners and the families of martyrs.

“The ex-servicemen of the state and their families are invaluable assets. Their unparalleled contribution and supreme sacrifices in safeguarding the nation will always be remembered with gratitude and pride,” Sukhu said.

Financial Security for Elderly Veterans

In a major relief measure, 968 elderly pensioners have been provided Rs 6.12 crore, helping ensure financial stability and a dignified life in their later years.

For many retired soldiers living in remote parts of Himachal, this assistance acts as a critical support system.

Honour for Gallantry Award Winners

Recognising bravery and sacrifice, the government has disbursed Rs 3 crore as honorariums to 1,084 gallantry award winners. This initiative acknowledges their courage and lifelong dedication to national security.

Support for Martyrs’ Families

The state has extended Rs 7.62 crore to 57 dependents of defence personnel who were martyred or disabled in action. This substantial financial aid aims to provide long-term security and stability to families who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Additionally, Rs 20.83 lakh has been distributed to 154 war Jagir beneficiaries as part of continued welfare efforts.

Encouraging Youth to Join the Armed Forces

Looking toward the future, the government has sanctioned Rs 2.28 crore to organise Army recruitment rallies in Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur and Shimla districts. The move is designed to inspire young people and nurture a spirit of patriotism.

Further strengthening defence preparedness at the grassroots level, Rs 10.26 crore has been earmarked for the financial year 2025–26 to enhance infrastructure at the Major Somnath Training Academy in Barchhwar, Mandi district.

Why This Matters

Himachal Pradesh has a proud legacy of military service. With thousands of families connected to the armed forces, such welfare measures not only provide financial assistance but also reinforce the emotional bond between the state and its soldiers.

By combining financial security, honour recognition and youth engagement, the Sukhu government is sending a clear message — the sacrifices of soldiers and their families will never be forgotten.
