In the quiet hills of Churah in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju delivered more than just a political speech — he made a direct appeal for trust, inclusion and participation from minority communities.

Addressing a public gathering on Sunday, Rijiju said the BJP-led government under Narendra Modi has never discriminated against citizens based on caste, religion or region. He urged minority communities to look beyond traditional political alignments and support what he described as a development-driven and inclusive administration.

“Development Without Discrimination”

Rijiju stressed that governance under the Modi government has focused on reaching every citizen, especially those living in remote and underserved regions. He cited reforms in the Haj pilgrimage process, saying improved facilities and smoother arrangements have made it easier for Indian Muslims to undertake their spiritual journey to Mecca.

Clarifying that his visit was part of an official government programme — not an election rally — Rijiju acknowledged that many in the region traditionally do not support the BJP. However, he said such perceptions should evolve in light of the government’s commitment to equal opportunity and welfare for all.

Building on Vajpayee’s Vision

The minister credited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for laying the foundation of rural road connectivity through initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. He added that the current government has significantly expanded that vision, connecting once-inaccessible villages and tribal belts.

From clean drinking water and banking access to healthcare and livelihood opportunities, Rijiju said the administration has intensified efforts to ensure development touches even the remotest corners of the country.

Focus on Tribal and Remote Regions

Special emphasis was placed on improving connectivity in the remote Pangi valley and other tribal regions of Chamba district. According to Rijiju, integrating such areas into the national mainstream is essential for ensuring balanced growth.

During his visit, he laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects, including an indoor stadium in Saluni and a ₹7 crore indoor stadium along with a ₹1 crore Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Bhanjradu under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Yojana.

These projects, he said, are aimed at empowering youth through skill development and creating local opportunities so that migration to cities can be reduced.

Tourism and Economic Opportunity

Highlighting Chamba’s natural beauty and cultural richness, Rijiju encouraged residents to tap into tourism potential through homestays and hospitality ventures. He drew a comparison with Shimla, which developed significantly during British rule, and his home state of Arunachal Pradesh, where infrastructure lagged for decades.

“Real progress in my constituency accelerated only in recent years,” he remarked, suggesting that focused governance can transform even the most remote regions.

Why This Matters

With Himachal Pradesh’s tribal belts and minority-dominated pockets playing a significant role in local politics, Rijiju’s outreach signals a broader attempt to reshape political perceptions. His message centered on one theme: development should unite, not divide.

As India continues to balance growth with inclusivity, such conversations in smaller districts may well shape the larger national narrative.
