FIR Against Delhi Police in Himachal Pradesh Sparks Political Storm, BJP Rajeev Bindal Calls It ‘Anarchy’

The political temperature in Himachal Pradesh has surged after an FIR was filed by the state police against personnel from the Delhi Police, triggering sharp reactions from the opposition BJP.
State BJP president Rajeev Bindal described the development as “deeply disturbing and unprecedented,” terming it nothing short of “anarchy.” Addressing reporters at the BJP office in Una, Bindal said the situation raises serious concerns about constitutional governance and federal cooperation.
‘National Security Duty’, Says BJP
According to Bindal, the Delhi Police team was in Shimla as part of an official assignment linked to a matter of national security. He emphasized that the officers were following due legal procedures, including court directives, when the FIR was registered against them by the Himachal Police.
“The officers were executing lawful duties under court orders. Filing an abduction case against them creates unnecessary confrontation between two police forces,” Bindal said.
He further alleged that the state government was attempting to shield individuals accused of maligning India’s global image during the international AI Impact Summit held in Delhi.
Political Motive or Legal Action?
The BJP leader accused the Himachal government of politicizing law enforcement. According to him, registering an FIR against a police team from another state—while they were carrying out official duties—reflects a “dangerous breakdown of constitutional norms.”
“When a state government pits one police force against another for political interests, it weakens federal principles and the rule of law,” he said.
The controversy has intensified political debate in the state, with questions being raised about coordination between law enforcement agencies across states.
Concerns Over Law and Order in Himachal
Bindal also used the opportunity to highlight what he described as a steady decline in law and order in Himachal Pradesh over the past three years. He cited several recent incidents to support his claim:
- A suspicious death in Nalagarh allegedly linked to mafia activity
- An assault on a forest officer in Chamba
- Attacks on administrative officials in Mandi
- Firing incidents reported in Bilaspur and Una
- The death of a Dalit girl in Dharamsala
“These incidents reflect a worrying trend. Instead of strengthening governance, the state government is creating institutional conflict,” he added.
Why This Issue Matters
Inter-state police cooperation is a sensitive matter, especially when linked to national security concerns. Any perceived breakdown in coordination can quickly escalate into a larger political and constitutional debate.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on how both governments address the controversy and whether it leads to further legal or political developments.
