Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Kuldeep Pathania, on Sunday indicated that the upcoming Budget session, commencing Monday, could be extended beyond its scheduled three sittings depending on the volume of legislative business.

Addressing a press conference, Pathania said that while the session has been notified for three meetings, the final duration will depend on the scale of work brought before the House. “Since the Assembly notification was issued only recently, it is not certain how much business will come. The House may be adjourned and resumed later if required,” he stated.

125 Questions Submitted for Session

A total of 125 questions have been listed for the session, including:

  • 111 starred questions requiring oral replies
  • 14 unstarred questions for written answers

The Speaker noted that most legislative business during a session is introduced by the state government and additional sittings may be scheduled if necessary.

He also observed that the government would require adequate time to finalise the Budget for the financial year 2026–27. Under Assembly rules, provisions exist to adjourn and later reconvene the session depending on the workload.

Notices Under Rules 62 and 102

Apart from the listed questions:

  • One notice has been received under Rule 62 for a calling attention motion.
  • Another notice under Rule 102 has been submitted by the government, pertaining to an adjournment motion.

Pending Privilege Complaints

On complaints pending before the Privileges Committee of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, the Speaker said most matters have been disposed of, though a few remain under consideration.

One complaint filed by Ayurveda Minister Yadvinder Goma against the Deputy Commissioner of Mandi is awaiting a response from the Chief Secretary. The minister has alleged breach of privilege, and the case will be examined on merit once the reply is received.

Another pending complaint concerns a petition filed by Doon MLA Ram Kumar against former Superintendent of Police, Baddi, Ilma Afroz. A response has been sought from the Home Department as the officer is currently on Central deputation.

With key financial and political issues on the agenda, the session is expected to witness significant debate in the coming days.
