Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Police arrested a Nepalese national after recovering 1.81 kilograms of cannabis from his possession in Shimla district, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Chandan Buddha (50), a native of Nepal who was currently residing in Pujarli village of Chopal tehsil.
According to police, a patrol team noticed the suspect during routine checking in the area. Upon searching him, the police recovered the contraband substance weighing approximately 1.81 kg, which was immediately seized.
The accused was arrested on the spot.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla, Gaurav Singh, said that a case has been registered under Section 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, at Chopal police station.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended distribution of the cannabis, he added.
