Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reviews Rs 2,350-crore ADB-backed tourism projects, stressing world-class standards to position Himachal Pradesh as a global tourism destination.

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday said the state government is committed to positioning “Himachal Tourism” as a premier global brand, with projects worth Rs 2,350 crore being implemented across the state.

Chairing a high-level review meeting of tourism development initiatives, the Chief Minister said the projects are being executed with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Of the total investment, Rs 1,620 crore has been allocated under Tranche-1, while Rs 730 crore is earmarked for Tranche-2.

Sukhu emphasised the importance of maintaining world-class construction and service standards, directing officials to ensure timely completion of all projects.

“This vision is being realised through a comprehensive set of schemes aimed at strengthening the state’s economy while creating large-scale employment and self-employment opportunities for local youth,” he said.

Focus on connectivity and infrastructure

To enhance the overall visitor experience, the Chief Minister said the government is giving priority to connectivity and infrastructure development, including the construction of heliports and the expansion of Kangra airport.

A major highlight of the tourism master plan is the transformation of Kangra district into Himachal Pradesh’s ‘Tourism Capital’. Projects worth Rs 77.70 crore are currently underway in Palampur and Nagrota Bagwan.

In Palampur, ongoing works include the construction of multi-level parking facilities, renovation of the iconic Neugal Café, and the development of modern amenities such as a library-integrated café.

Statewide tourism development

Sukhu said tourism development is being carried out across the state, covering spiritual, adventure and wellness tourism.

In Hamirpur, projects worth Rs 51.09 crore are being implemented at the Shree Baba Balak Nath Temple complex, while Dharamsala will soon have new ice-skating and roller-skating rinks at a cost of Rs 33.78 crore.

The Chief Minister added that wellness centres worth over Rs 56 crore are being developed in Kullu and Manali, while the historic Naggar Castle is undergoing specialised conservation and renovation to preserve its cultural heritage.

The meeting was attended by RS Bali, Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, and Director Tourism Vivek Bhatia.
