Himachal Pradesh to move court over discontinuation of Revenue Deficit Grant, says CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday announced that the state will move court against the Centre’s decision to discontinue the Revenue Deficit Grant, calling it a threat to the state’s financial stability.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday announced that the state will move court against the Centre’s decision to discontinue the Revenue Deficit Grant, calling it a threat to the state’s financial stability.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday said the Himachal Pradesh government will approach the court against the discontinuation of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) to the state.
The Chief Minister made the announcement after a special Cabinet meeting convened to deliberate on the financial situation arising from the Centre’s decision to stop the RDG.
Targeting the opposition, Sukhu criticised Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur and BJP legislators for skipping a special presentation on the state’s finances, despite being formally informed. He said the opposition must rise above political considerations in the larger interest of Himachal Pradesh.
“The BJP should put aside politics and urge the Prime Minister to either restore the Revenue Deficit Grant or provide a special financial package to the state,” the Chief Minister said.
Sukhu pointed out that there is a gap of Rs 7,000 crore to Rs 8,000 crore between the state’s revenue and expenditure, which was being bridged through the RDG. He warned that discontinuation of the grant would severely impact the state’s ability to meet essential expenses.
The Chief Minister asserted that the state government would fight for its rightful dues both politically and legally, stressing that the withdrawal of RDG was unjust for a hill state with limited revenue-generating capacity.
