Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed the interim trade agreement between India and the United States, saying it would significantly strengthen the ‘Make in India’ initiative, create large-scale employment, and open new opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs and young innovators.
The Prime Minister also thanked US President Donald Trump for his personal commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, describing the agreement as “great news for India and the USA”.
Calling the framework a reflection of the growing depth and trust in India-US relations, Modi said the interim trade deal highlights the dynamism of the strategic partnership between the world’s two largest democracies and lays the foundation for deeper economic cooperation.
“This framework reflects the growing depth, trust and dynamism of our partnership,” the Prime Minister said, adding that it underlines the shared commitment of both nations to expand trade and investment in a mutually beneficial manner.
According to the government, the proposed trade framework aims to boost Make in India by enhancing market access and streamlining trade mechanisms. It is expected to benefit farmers, entrepreneurs, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups and fishermen, while generating large-scale employment, particularly for women and young people.
In a post on X, PM Modi said:
“Great news for India and USA! We have agreed on a framework for an Interim Trade Agreement between our two great nations. I thank President Trump for his personal commitment to robust ties between our countries.”
He added that the agreement would strengthen innovation-led growth by deepening investment and technology partnerships, reinforcing resilient and trusted supply chains, and contributing to global economic growth.
“As India moves forward towards building a Viksit Bharat, we remain committed to building global partnerships that are future-oriented, empower our people and contribute to shared prosperity,” Modi said.
The interim trade agreement is expected to serve as a stepping stone towards a broader and more comprehensive trade pact between India and the US in the coming months.
