In the wake of the discontinuation of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) to Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday announced that the state government will levy land revenue on all power projects operating in the state.

“I have decided to charge land revenue from all power projects functioning in Himachal Pradesh,” Sukhu said, while strongly criticising the Centre’s decision to discontinue the RDG. He urged people to prepare for a prolonged struggle to safeguard the state’s financial rights.

The Chief Minister said a Cabinet meeting has been convened on February 8 to deliberate on the implications of the RDG withdrawal and to chart out the state’s future course of action.

“We are also planning to convene a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party and will invite BJP MLAs as well,” Sukhu said, underlining the need for political unity on the issue.

He warned that the discontinuation of the RDG would have serious long-term consequences on the financial health of Himachal Pradesh, particularly at a time when the state is already facing fiscal stress.

Calling for unity beyond political affiliations, Sukhu said the issue was not about political parties but about the people of Himachal Pradesh.
“We need to rise above party lines and fight together for the interests of the state. This is not a political battle but a people’s movement, and everyone must be prepared for a long struggle,” he said.
