In a heartening display of leadership and duty, DSP Traffic Chandrashekhar was seen personally managing traffic and clearing snow-covered roads with a shovel during heavy snowfall in Shimla, earning widespread appreciation from residents and tourists alike.
At a time when normal movement became difficult due to slippery and snow-laden roads, the officer chose not to supervise from his office but stepped onto the streets to take charge of the situation himself. Apart from directing traffic at key intersections, he also joined his team in physically removing snow to ensure smoother vehicular movement.
Shimla has been witnessing continuous snowfall over the past few days, resulting in long traffic snarls and dangerous road conditions across several parts of the city. Snow accumulation has significantly increased the risk of accidents, making traffic management a major challenge for authorities.
Amid these conditions, DSP Chandrashekhar stationed himself at busy junctions and main roads, coordinating traffic flow and helping clear congestion. His proactive approach not only helped ease traffic jams but also boosted the morale of his team and newly recruited personnel.
Originally a resident of Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district, Chandrashekhar was posted as DSP Traffic Shimla about two months ago. He earlier served as DSP in Ani. Videos of him working alongside his team, shovelling snow and controlling traffic, have gone viral on social media, drawing praise for his hands-on leadership style.
Local residents and tourists said such ground-level involvement by senior officers strengthens public trust and ensures better system efficiency. “When officers themselves step onto the streets and take responsibility, everything automatically improves,” said a commuter.
His actions have now become a talking point in the city, symbolising dedication and people-centric policing during adverse weather conditions.
