In a historic first, the Himachal Pradesh Police presented its maiden tableau at the 77th Republic Day parade held at the Ridge Ground in Shimla on January 26, 2026, delivering a strong and resonant message against drug abuse.
Based on the theme “Drug-Free Himachal – Anti-Chitta Campaign,” the tableau aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and appealed to the youth to stay away from narcotics. The event was witnessed by thousands of citizens, including Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, senior officials, and members of the public.
The tableau vividly showcased the key anti-drug initiatives being spearheaded by the Himachal Pradesh Police, including the Anti-Chitta Awareness Campaign, the EKM programme, and various community outreach and engagement efforts. It also highlighted the public movement initiated by the Chief Minister, underlining the collective responsibility of youth, parents, educational institutions, and society in combating the drug menace.
The initiative received widespread appreciation from the audience. People from all sections of society lauded the police for using the Republic Day platform to spread such a socially relevant message. Several young spectators expressed their willingness to actively participate in awareness drives and community-based anti-drug programmes.
Given the growing concern over drug abuse in the state, the tableau carried a clear message — the fight against drugs requires responsible behaviour, timely reporting of drug-related activities, and an alert society. It stressed that tackling the drug problem is not the responsibility of the police alone, but a collective social mission.
Addressing the occasion, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the overwhelming public participation in initiatives such as the Anti-Chitta Walkathon and the Republic Day celebrations reflected the state’s unified stand against drugs. He asserted that the government and police would continue working together to achieve the goal of a drug-free Himachal Pradesh.
Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Tiwari, IPS, said that the Anti-Chitta campaign has now transformed into a people’s movement. He added that the appreciation received at the parade has boosted the morale of the police force and reaffirmed their commitment to intensify awareness programmes, strict enforcement, and direct engagement with the youth across the state.
The tableau has injected fresh momentum into the “Drug-Free Himachal” campaign and reinforced the resolve of the Himachal Pradesh Police to safeguard the health, safety, and future of the younger generation.
