The State Meteorological Department has issued a yellow weather alert for all 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh, warning of widespread snowfall and rainfall till January 28.

According to officials, snowfall will continue in the higher reaches on January 25, while most other parts of the state are likely to remain largely dry. However, from January 26 to January 28, the state is expected to witness fresh spells of rain and snow, with heavy precipitation likely at isolated places on January 27. Weather conditions are likely to improve from January 29 onwards.

Cold wave persists

Even as precipitation is forecast, a cold wave continues to grip several regions. Over the past 24 hours, weather conditions remained mostly dry, but temperatures stayed below normal in many areas.

Minimum temperatures were normal at most places, while a few locations recorded readings 2°C to 3°C below normal, ranging between minus 7°C and 9°C. Maximum temperatures showed a rise of 5°C to 12°C, ranging from minus 3°C to 18°C.

Cold wave conditions were reported from Kangra, Mandi, Una, Hamirpur and Bilaspur districts.

  • Mandi: 4.3°C

  • Kalpa: –3.8°C
  • Sundernagar: 3.7°C
  • Bhuntar: 2.5°C
  • Nahan: 6.2°C
  • Paonta Sahib: 8°C
  • Kufri: –2.5°C
  • Narkanda: –4.2°C
  • Reckong Peo: 0.1°C
  • Tabo: –6.5°C

Kukumseri remained the coldest place in the state, recording a minimum temperature of –7.2°C.

Advisory

Authorities have advised residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel in snowbound and high-altitude areas, as heavy snowfall may disrupt road connectivity and essential services.
