A 25-year-old Hindu youth was burnt to death after a fire broke out in a garage where he was sleeping in Bangladesh’s Narsingdi district on Friday night, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Chanchal Bhowmik.
According to officials, the blaze started inside the shop late at night. Fire service personnel had to break open the shutter to reach him, but by the time they entered, his body had been completely charred.
Police said CCTV footage from nearby cameras has raised suspicion of foul play.
Narsingdi Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Faruque told ANI that investigators noticed a person moving around the area shortly before the fire broke out.
“We have collected footage from CCTV cameras and observed a scene showing a person moving around. We are investigating whether the fire was caused by some external factor or by an electric fault,” the SP said.
He added that the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation and no arrests have been made so far.
Authorities are examining technical and forensic evidence to determine whether the incident was accidental or deliberate.
