Russian President Vladimir Putin held marathon overnight talks with US President Donald Trump’s envoys, insisting that any long-term peace agreement in Ukraine would depend on resolving territorial disputes.

The meeting at the Kremlin stretched past 3 am and included Trump’s representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Kremlin foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov said it was reaffirmed that a lasting settlement cannot be achieved without addressing territorial issues, referring to Moscow’s demand that Ukraine withdraw from regions Russia has annexed but not fully captured.

The talks came hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticised European allies for what he described as a slow and fragmented response to Russia’s nearly four-year invasion, saying Ukraine remains vulnerable amid ongoing diplomatic efforts for peace.

Officials confirmed that Russian, Ukrainian and US delegations are set to hold further security discussions in Abu Dhabi as part of continued negotiations to end the conflict.
