Police have filed a chargesheet in court against Churah MLA Hansraj in connection with an alleged sexual exploitation case involving a young woman. The chargesheet was submitted within two months after the court granted him regular anticipatory bail on November 27, 2025.

The court has fixed March 5 as the date for the first hearing, following which the trial will formally commence.

According to the complaint, the woman, a resident of Churah, alleged that the MLA sexually exploited her by luring her when she was a minor. Based on her written complaint, a case was registered at the Chamba Women Police Station under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on November 7, 2025.

Hansraj has denied the allegations, terming them baseless and claiming they are part of a conspiracy to malign his image and disturb communal harmony in his constituency.

Police also registered a separate case against some of his close aides for allegedly abducting and intimidating the complainant after she had levelled similar allegations in 2024, which she later withdrew.

To avoid arrest, the MLA had initially gone incommunicado and subsequently moved an anticipatory bail plea on November 10. The court granted him interim anticipatory bail on November 11, which remained in effect till November 22. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court later converted the interim relief into regular anticipatory bail on November 27.

Despite the grant of bail, the police expedited the investigation and filed the chargesheet within the stipulated period.

Superintendent of Police, Chamba, Vijay Kumar Saklani said the investigation was conducted impartially and strictly on the basis of facts. “The investigation was completed within two months and the chargesheet was presented within the stipulated time. Further action will now proceed as per the judicial process,” he said.
