A sensational burglary has been reported from Sarkaghat town, creating panic among residents. Thieves broke into a locked house in Ward No. 1, Laka, and decamped with gold and silver jewellery along with cash worth approximately ₹16 lakh. A case has been registered at the Sarkaghat Police Station and an investigation is underway.

According to the complaint lodged by Anit Kumar, son of Surendra Kumar and a resident of Ward No. 1, Laka (Post Office and Tehsil Sarkaghat, District Mandi), the incident occurred on January 17, 2026. He stated that he and his family had gone to their old house in Kandyol, leaving their new house locked.

Taking advantage of the family’s absence, unidentified thieves broke open the main lock and entered the house. When the family returned the next day, they found the lock broken, cupboards open, clothes scattered, and jewellery boxes empty.

The stolen items include a gold mangalsutra, nose ring, tikka, rings, earrings, gold clips, three pairs of silver anklets, and cash amounting to ₹2,000–3,000 from a children’s piggy bank.

Sarkaghat Police Station Incharge Rajneesh Thakur said that a case has been registered under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Indian Penal Code, and the investigation has been entrusted to Assistant Sub-Inspector Anil Kumar.

SP Mandi Sakshi Verma stated that burglary incidents are being taken seriously. Police teams have been constituted to trace the accused, CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and further investigation is in progress.
