Himachal Pradesh is likely to experience a spell of snowfall and rain on January 23, prompting the State Meteorological Department to issue a yellow alert for the higher reaches of the state.
According to the department, isolated high-altitude areas may receive heavy snowfall accompanied by rain on January 23. Light snowfall and rain are expected to continue in the upper reaches till January 22, while lower and mid-hill areas are likely to remain dry till January 21.
The anticipated weather activity is being attributed to two western disturbances expected to affect northwest India in quick succession from January 19 and January 21. Their combined impact may trigger one or two spells of heavy precipitation at isolated locations in the high hills, particularly on January 23.
Meanwhile, very light snowfall was recorded in the higher reaches over the past 24 hours. Tabo village in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest place in the state, with the minimum temperature dropping to minus 2.6°C.
