As the historic town of Mandi prepares to mark 500 years of its existence, the souvenir of the upcoming International Shivratri Festival will prominently showcase the city’s rich historical legacy, cultural heritage and developmental journey.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Souvenir Sub-Committee of the International Shivratri Festival held at the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Civil), Sadar Mandi, under the chairmanship of SDM Rupinder Kaur. The meeting focused on finalising the theme of the souvenir, cover page design, originality and diversity of content, and overall publication quality.

The committee unanimously agreed that the 500-year milestone of Mandi city should be a central theme of the souvenir. Well-researched, fact-based articles highlighting the city’s historical evolution, cultural traditions and socio-economic development will be included. To ensure authenticity, the committee decided to invite historians and research scholars to contribute scholarly and insightful articles.

Addressing the meeting, the SDM said special efforts would be made to ensure that this year’s souvenir is more informative, visually appealing and of higher quality than previous editions. She appealed to historians, litterateurs and writers to submit original and unpublished articles that are authentic and properly documented.

All articles must be submitted to the District Language Officer’s office by January 24, after which the committee will finalise the content for publication. The SDM added that each article should be concise and focused, with a word limit of 1,500 to 2,000 words, to maintain uniformity and readability.

Special emphasis will be placed on designing a cover page that effectively reflects Mandi’s historical, cultural and religious identity. The committee also stressed the importance of timely publication, meticulous proofreading, linguistic accuracy and an overall coherent and attractive presentation.

Members noted that the souvenir should match the dignity and international stature of the Shivratri Festival and serve as a valuable collector’s edition commemorating five centuries of Mandi’s history.

The meeting was attended by Press Club president Subhash Thakur, senior journalists Birbal Sharma and Khem Chand Shastri, noted litterateur Murari Sharma, District Language Officer and Member Secretary Revati Saini, along with other committee members.
