Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today alleged that internal bickering within the state Cabinet and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s silence on the issue were adversely affecting governance in Himachal Pradesh.
In a statement issued here, Thakur said public works were suffering due to poor governance and lack of administrative control. “Ministers are virtually at daggers drawn with each other, resulting in an unbridled administrative machinery. Is the government scared of acting against erring officials?” he asked.
He alleged that administrative failure and weak governance were taking a toll on the routine functioning of the state government. “What is most worrisome is that development works have come to a standstill, with corruption rampant at every level,” the former Chief Minister said.
Meanwhile, State BJP General Secretary Sanjeev Katwal also targeted the Congress government, accusing it of complete administrative failure and lack of accountability among bureaucrats.
In a separate statement, Katwal said officers appeared to believe they were answerable to no one. “It is not a question of which state an officer belongs to, but of taking strict action against corrupt officials,” he said.
He added that officers must refrain from acting in a partisan manner and should function independently, impartially and in accordance with the law.
