Himachal Pradesh : 240 trainee doctors suspended for one week
The authorities of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital here have suspended 240 trainee doctors from the 2021 and 2025 MBBS batches for one week for proceeding on unauthorised leave and not appearing in in-house examinations.

According to official sources, trainee doctors from both batches went on leave without prior permission and failed to appear in scheduled examinations, prompting the college administration to initiate strict disciplinary action.
In addition to the suspension, the Community Medicine (CMR) and Biochemistry (Biochem) postings of trainees from both batches have been cancelled.
The college administration has further clarified that students of the 2021 MBBS batch will not be allowed to contest elections to the students’ council or participate in the annual sports meet, cultural programmes or any other extracurricular activities during their remaining training period.
For trainees of the 2025 MBBS batch, the house job period has been extended till January 2028. The period of unauthorised leave taken by these trainees will also be adjusted against their annual leave.
Medical college spokesperson and media coordinator Dr Manik Sehgal said trainees of the 2025 batch proceeded on unauthorised leave from December 26 without prior approval, while those of the 2021 batch went on leave from December 15 and also failed to appear in examinations.
Terming the incident a case of indiscipline, Dr Sehgal said a thorough inquiry was conducted by the disciplinary committee, which submitted its report to the authorities. Based on the committee’s findings, the decision to suspend the trainee doctors for one week was taken.
