The state government has revoked the termination of Dr Raghav Nirula, a Senior Resident at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla, following an inquiry into his alleged scuffle with a patient inside the hospital premises.
Dr Nirula’s services had been terminated after the incident. However, the government cancelled the termination order based on the findings of an inquiry committee constituted to re-examine the matter.
According to the committee report, the incident resulted from irresponsible conduct by both individuals involved in the scuffle. The committee also noted that Dr Nirula had tendered an unconditional apology and that no prior complaints had ever been registered against him.
Taking into account the committee’s observations and recommendations, the government decided to revoke the termination order. It was also noted that the doctor and the patient have reached a compromise, bringing the matter to a close.
