Security was intensified at the High Court on Wednesday after an anonymous email threatening a bomb blast was received, triggering panic on the court premises.
According to police, the email claimed that explosive material had been planted inside the court complex and warned of an impending explosion. Acting swiftly, High Court officials informed the police, following which a bomb disposal squad, sniffer dog squad, CID team and local police rushed to the spot and launched a comprehensive search operation.
The operation continued for several hours, during which the entire court complex was thoroughly sanitised. No explosive device was found, and the threat was later assessed as unsubstantiated.
Police officials confirmed that the email is being examined and efforts are underway to trace its origin. As a precautionary measure, security at the High Court has been further strengthened, with enhanced checks and strict surveillance. All visitors are being subjected to thorough security screening.
This is not the first such incident. Similar bomb threat emails were received by the High Court last year as well, prompting evacuation and extensive search operations. Those threats were later found to be hoaxes.
In recent times, bomb threat emails have also been sent to the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat, Deputy Commissioners’ offices and several district courts, causing repeated security alerts across the state.
