Collective Efforts Needed to Protect Youth from Drug Abuse: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla

Addressing the closing ceremony of the Shimla Winter Carnival, the Governor said the growing menace of drug abuse posed a serious threat to society and could only be curbed through awareness, vigilance and community participation. He emphasised that collective resolve was essential to ensure a healthy and drug-free Himachal Pradesh.
The Governor described the Shimla Winter Carnival as a vibrant reflection of the state’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty and famed hospitality, noting that the third edition of the event had emerged as a major attraction for both locals and tourists. He appreciated the enthusiastic participation of residents and visitors and lauded the performances by artistes that added colour to the celebrations.
Commending the Shimla Municipal Corporation and the carnival organising committee, Shukla said the event successfully blended cultural celebration with social awareness. He underlined the responsibility that accompanies such festivals, urging people to remain mindful of environmental conservation and the preservation of cultural traditions.
Highlighting the importance of sustainable development, the Governor said promoting sustainable tourism, protecting nature and heritage, and fostering positive thinking were crucial for the state’s future.
Earlier, Shimla Mayor Surender Chauhan honoured the Governor and the Lady Governor. The Governor presented awards to winners of Voice of Shimla Season-3, with Saurav Atri securing the first prize of Rs 51,000, Poonam Pandit winning the second prize of Rs 31,000, and Subhash receiving the third prize of Rs 21,000. He also released the souvenir of the Shimla Winter Carnival.
The evening featured cultural performances by noted comedian Ahsaan Qureshi and Bollywood singer Hema Sardesai. Local MLA Harish Janartha, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, Governor’s Secretary CP Verma, Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap and Municipal Commissioner Bhupender Atri were present on the occasion.
