IGMC Shimla News : IGMC doctors’ panel to re-examine scuffle case, says CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced the formation of a committee of senior doctors to re-inquire into the termination of a senior resident at IGMC following an alleged scuffle with a patient, assuring fairness to both doctors and patients.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday said that a committee of senior doctors would be constituted to re-examine the circumstances leading to the termination of Dr Raghav Nirula, who has been accused of assaulting a patient at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC).
The Chief Minister said the state government was sympathetic towards both doctors and patients and was committed to ensuring fairness. “I am glad that the resident doctors, on my request, chose to call off their strike and resumed duties from today. It is not our intention to ruin the career of any doctor, and the government will seriously look into their demands,” Sukhu said.
However, he clarified that the termination from senior residency was based on an inquiry report prepared by senior doctors at IGMC, followed by action taken by the Health Department. “The doctor has expressed regret over the incident. Based on the findings of the senior doctors’ committee, the government will take an appropriate decision,” he added.
Dr Nirula’s services were terminated following a scuffle with a patient at IGMC, which triggered an indefinite strike by resident doctors. The strike was later withdrawn after assurances from the state government regarding a fresh review of the case.
