The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet has approved the introduction of the CBSE curriculum in 100 government schools from March 2026, sanctioned ₹100 crore for implementation, and cleared the recruitment of 800 teachers along with several major decisions in education, health, and urban development.
Several key decisions aimed at strengthening education, employment and welfare were taken at a Cabinet meeting held at the State Secretariat on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
In a major move, the Cabinet approved the implementation of the CBSE curriculum in 100 government schools across Himachal Pradesh. A budgetary provision of ₹100 crore has been sanctioned to the Education Department for the initiative. The government has directed that all CBSE norms be fulfilled and infrastructural and academic shortcomings be addressed within a stipulated timeframe so that CBSE classes can commence from March 2026.
To support the transition, the Cabinet approved the creation of 800 teaching posts, including 400 Mathematics teachers and 400 English teachers. It was also decided to appoint one special educator and one yoga teacher in each of the selected schools. In addition, approval was granted for the appointment of one watchman and three multi-task workers per school.
Industries Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan said that the staff for CBSE schools would be recruited separately and that the required educational qualifications had already been finalised.
The Cabinet also approved the development of a new township at Baddi, which is envisioned as a world-class city, aimed at boosting planned urban growth and industrial infrastructure.
Further, the Cabinet amended the Chief Minister’s Sukhashray Yojana, extending its benefits to children whose parents have 70 per cent disability, bringing more vulnerable families under the welfare scheme.
Among other key decisions, approval was given to:
- Fill 10 posts of Block Development Officers (BDOs) through direct recruitment
- Waive loans up to ₹1 lakh for small shopkeepers in urban areas with an annual income of less than ₹10 lakh under the Chief Minister’s Small Shopkeeper Scheme
- Recruit 174 professors and 600 assistant staff nurses in medical colleges
- Fill 40 junior engineer posts in the Jal Shakti Department
The decisions are expected to significantly strengthen the state’s education system, healthcare services, employment opportunities, and urban development.
