Delhi Police have arrested an off-duty Air India Express pilot in connection with an alleged assault on a passenger at IGI Airport’s Terminal 1 after examining CCTV footage and recording witness statements.

The Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested an off-duty Air India Express pilot accused of assaulting a passenger at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, an official said.

The accused, identified as Captain Virendra Sejwal, had earlier joined the investigation and was questioned by the investigating officer.

“In the course of the investigation, following the registration of the case, relevant CCTV footage was collected and witness statements were recorded. The accused was also called for questioning, after which his arrest was effected,” a police officer said in a statement.

Sejwal has been booked under Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with an incident of alleged violence near the security checkpoint at Terminal 1 on December 19.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
